NOLA

Travel Day

  • Lake Charles, LA to New Orleans, LA via I-210 and I-10
  • Adam took us on a driving tour of the Garden District
Rice fields beside the highway. Louisiana is a big rice producing state.

On to Cajun country, land of bayou, swamp, and gators!

Some of the many swamps begin to form small lakes. Off in the far distance is the Mississippi River, but you can't see it from here.

You can see the highway that runs through the swamps. There is over 20 miles of elevated highway, the ground beneath just too wet for any sort of road bed.

Crossing the Mississippi River at Baton Rouge. We are now "east" of the Mississippi.

Storm clouds showed up as we headed into New Orleans, but we only had a brief cloudburst and they moved on.

These trolley cars provide public transport in NOLA.

The Garden District of NOLA has some beautiful and interesting old homes, many of which have been converted to businesses downstairs and apartments upstairs.

Some of the older, more stately homes are even used as embassies or professional buildings.

Our first look down Bourbon Street into the heart of the French Quarter.

Drinks at the famous Carousel Bar in the Monteleone Hotel, within the French Quarter of NOLA. The bar goes round in a circle while you sit there getting dizzy from your drinks.

The bartender, Adam, Katherine and an innocent bystander lifted me up onto the bar stool at the Carousel Bar, so I went for a ride too!
