Hanging Around Bastrop And Austin, TX For The Day

Travel Day

  • Bastrop, TX to Austin, TX via SR 71 and return

Started our day with a visit to historic downtown Bastrop, TX, one of the oldest incorporated cities in the state of Texas.

Decided to stop for lunch at Paw Paws, a local catfish joint.

The whole inside of the restaurant was done up with a fishing theme.

After Bastrop, we headed into Austin to visit the State Capitol.

Rob and Terry Bigsby were our hosts for the day. Rob is a friend of mine from college days.

The state emblem on the floor of the rotunda.

Looking up into the cupola from the rotunda floor, you can see the Lone Star of Texas at the top.

Katherine and Terry made a quick visit to the Governor's Public Reception Lounge on the second floor of the capitol building.

On of the old hotels in downtown Austin. We walked by here on our way to the street festival part of the famous South by Southwest Festival held this time every year in Austin.

The Hulk and Wolverine were there to pose with tourists, for a fee.

There were plenty of street musicians performing for the festival, along with plenty of indoor venues along the way.

We stopped for dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. Margarita's were involved.
