Dallas For The Day

Travel Day
  • No Travel; we spent the day exploring downtown Dallas.
Heading into downtown Dallas. The Commerce Street exit takes us right to Dealey Plaza.

The Dealey Plaza marker. This was the heart of Dallas back when it was founded. Now this area is mostly a dedication to the Kennedy assassination.

The "grassy knoll" across the road from the main plaza. There was suspicion at the time, and there still is today, that there was another shooter on this rise.

What was once the Texas Schoolbook Repository, now an "administration building". The window just below the top row, on the far right in the corner, is where Lee Harvey Oswald fired his rifle at the Kennedy motorcade, mortally wounding JFK and injuring Senator John Connolly.

This plaque marks the spot where Kennedy was shot, along with Connolly, although they were both in a car on the road at the time.

Looking downtown from Dealey Plaza. Besides being a historic location, this is a bustling, working city.

One of the original buildings from old Dallas, built on this spot and preserved as a memorial to the original settlers.

Katherine tried to get in. The lock stopped her.

The old Dallas Court House, actually the 6th iteration of the courthouse. The first five either burned down or were torn down. This one stood the test of time. It is affectionately known locally as "Old Red", and is now a museum.

The wrought iron staircase inside "Old Red".

There is some interesting architecture in downtown Dallas. Katherine liked this building.

We stopped at Dick's Last Resort in the historic West End of Dallas. I got a t-shirt.

We picked up a little something to enjoy back in the hotel room. Oddly enough, I found a French Malbec, one of the recent vintages from vines repatriated from Argentina.
