Local Tourism Near Rapid City, SD

Travel Day

• Rapid City, SD to Wall, SD and return via I-90
• Rapid City, SD to Devil's Tower, WY vi I-90 and US 24
• Devil's Tower, WY to Rapid City, SD via Hulett, Alva, and Sundance

We took a visit to world famous Wall Drug in Wall, SD. This is the ice cream parlour.

The bison is real, albeit stuffed. The rabbit, not so much. I finally took some pictures! Katherine has been doing all the camera work so far, and likely will for the rest of the trip, with a few exceptions.

This is the "western" section of Wall Drug.

Heading west from Rapid City, SD into Wyoming and the landscape makes some changes.

As we drove away from I-90 and towards Devil's Tower, there were literally hundreds of these guys in herds along side the roads. It must be sheer carnage here in the summer.

As advertised, Devil's Tower, WY, the mountain that makes such a significant appearance in the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

This is the canyon near Devi's Tower. The soil is a very rich red colour.

Headed back to South Dakota on the I-90.
