Grandpa Day

Travel Day

  • Victoria, BC to Coombs, BC and return via Highway 1, Highway 19 and Highway 4a
The route from Victoria to Coombs takes you over the Malahat heights. This is a view down the Saanich Inlet from the summit of the Malahat.

Yep, I'm driving. Yep, my arms and belly are that big. No, they are not strong; it's mostly dying muscle and useless fat.

It's about a 2 hour drive from Victoria to Coombs, so Rose took the opportunity for a nap.

After about an hour of fussing and crying, Quinn also finally took the opportunity for a nap.

We arrived at the Coombs General Store to find this funky castle right next door.

Rose thinks it's pretty cool.

Rose and I, and a lion statue.

Behind us there are supposed to be "Goats On The Roof". Unfortunately there were no goats to be found on the various roofs.

So we went into the General Store and took a look at all the cool stuff in there. Lots of toys. Grandpa restrained himself, purchasing nothing.

Grandpa was really saving his money for ice cream. So Rose and Mary went into the ice cream stand and got said deliciousness.

Rose delivered Grandpa's ice cream and the two of us got down to some serious ice creaming.

We went to the shops next door, whereupon Quinn decided that he no longer wished to stay in his stroller.

Instead he wanted to get out and play on the statues with Rose. Momma was close at hand, standing guard.

The results of a half of an ice cream cone. It was actually worse than this but Mary kept cleaning her up. That's Bubble Gum ice cream for those who are interested.

Quinn wants to get in on the action, although with a firm grip on Momma.

We finally found the goats in question, in a pen behind the General Store, not on the roof. Having found the goats, we all got in the truck and headed back to Victoria. Mission accomplished.

  2. For the record, in that last photo I'm taking a picture of Rose with my phone. Not ignoring the precious moments for social media!
