- Calgary to Cochrane via 1A
- Cochrane to Mayerthorpe via AB 22 (The Cowboy Trail)
- Mayerthorpe to Whitecourt via AB 43
As we left Calgary this morning, there were dark clouds, rain and hail all round. The weather got better as we headed further north.
Even with the cloud cover, the view of Cochrane from the hilltop is still lovely.
We headed up Alberta Highway 22, also known as The Cowboy Trail. It is a series of straight stretches stitched together with westward jogs intermittently, keeping the trail close into the foothills of the Alberta Rockies.
Beautiful downtown Rocky Mountain House, about a third of the way to Mayerthorpe where The Cowboy Trail ends.
The last highway marker of the Cowboy Trail, in Mayerthorpe, AB.
Mayerthorpe was the sight of the killing of four Mounties on March 3, 2005. This memorial commemorate them, and all those who fall in the service of Canada.
Yep, that's me. Yep, that's my truck. Yep, I was there.
Whitecourt, AB, where the main action is the mill and the mall, although there is a Walmart now, along with a Canadian Tire and two Timmies.
