Whitecourt To Dawson Creek

Travel Day

  • Whitecourt to Swan Hills via AB 43 and AB 31
  • Swan Hills to Kinuso via AB 33
  • Kinuso, AB to Dawson Creek, BC via AB 2, AB 49 and BC 49

The run from Whitecourt to Dawson Creek can be taken the direct route through Grand Prairie, or the back way through Swan Hills. Needless to say, we went the long way. Swan Hills was our first stop.

It's Swan Hills, on the Grizzly Trail. So they have a sculpture representing a grizzly attacking a swan protecting her nest.

We stopped by the small town of Kinuso so Katherine could take a break. It's a very small Alberta town. The most interesting part was this sign.

The town of High Prairie welcomed us. Unfortunately the town of High Prairie did not, and does not, have a Tim Horton's, a key target for us in mid-afternoon. We kept going.

As we headed out of High Prairie, Katherine noticed this interesting conflation of agriculture and the oil business.

We headed from High Prairie to Dawson Creek. This was our welcome sign into BC.

Katherine was very distressed when she learned that the Alaska Highway was nowhere near Alaska. She wants it renamed to something reflecting the fact that it is mostly in Canada.

Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway, which she now knows is in Dawson Creek, BC.

Yep, that's me. Yep, that's my truck. Yep, I'm here.
