Beaches And The Sunset

Travel Day

  • No Travel. Hotel Shuttle from our hotel to downtown Key West and return.
Katherine went for a walk on the beach while I slept in this morning. It was a glorious rest for me and a wonderful walk for her.

This is the driveway in front of our hotel. Katherine say an iguana on the roadway this morning. Katherine does not like iguanas, or any other reptiles. She did not get a picture.

These little guys, or not so little guys, are all around the place, generally high in the trees, well hidden from photographers like me. I saw one yesterday bud did not have the camera.

We went into town, to the southernmost point in the USA. Cuba is out there about 90 miles away. If there were a road, we could drive there in a couple of hours.

The obligatory picture with the marker. Unfortunately the person taking the picture for us could not figure out how to get the whole marker in the photograph.

Katherine took this one.

We walked from the marker towards downtown Key West, passing the Old Lighthouse Museum along the way. Katherine went in for a look, and found the old lens from the light.

She took these pictures from the top of the lighthouse. I declined to go up there with her.

And here is the reason I declined. No elevator.

We stopped at a local bar along the way and managed to get trapped there for a couple of hours. This place is called the Green Parrot and appeared to be full with people from the local community, rather than tourists. It's a great bar; we loved it.

Why did the chickens cross the road? We don't really know, but these guys have the run of the roost here in Key West. Traffic stops for them. People take pictures. They eat. It seems like a good deal for the chickens.

I found a book I like. Unfortunately I was not allowed to keep it.

This is the Mile 0 mark for the highway down the east coast of the US.

Hey sailor! Busy tonight?

This is the local art museum. It has these dancer statues all around it.

The dancers at the back are somewhat less discreet than the dancers at the front and sides.

Sunset at Key West.

We all applauded the sunset. It's a tradition.

After sunset, we walked along the boardwalk. There were buskers and entertainers doing their thing. After our walk, we went back to our hotel and called it a great day.
